The Maintenance Program This is an overview of what our Maintenance program includes. It is suggested that it be done at least twice a year,but preferably on a quarterly basis. The cost is minimal and it falls into the preventive and care taking of your system. The Maintenance Program has come to life due to the need of better performance and better security for computers in the modern world. This program is based on the cleaning of one or two computers with its peripherals and assumes a DSL connection to the internet. A dial up connection will extend the maintenance another hour or hour and half due to the restrictions of the internet connection. This bring the time spent in maintenance to a minimum of 1 ½ hours to 2 ½ hours per computer to a maximum of 2 to 3 hours per (1 or 2 Computers). More computers take additional time depending on many factors that we can discuss when we set up the program for you and with you. A) Cleaning: (Time spent on this task is about 45 minutes.) Static electricity brings dust closer to the computer than ever. The fans inside the computer which are crucial for the cooling of the system bring dust and such deposits inside the case. A simple vacuuming device can accomplish the cleaning of the keyboard and surface areas easily. Meanwhile a mild detergent like liquid will take care of the removal of oily deposits on the keyboard, mouse, monitors and other peripherals from daily interactions with them. It is important to keep Printers clear of paper debris as to the proper function of the printer. Less paper jams, less paper waste. Clean This will include: 1) Clean Monitor 2) Clean Keyboard 3) Clean Mouse 4) Clean Outside Case 5) Clean Inside of Case by Vacuuming. 6) Clean printer, scanner , et cetera. B) Updates: Depending on the connection it will take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. This is interdependent of the CPU, and the internet connection. Even though some systems allow for automation of updates and upgrades, care needs to be taken as to which updates and upgrades apply to which computers. If the right precautions are not taken an update or upgrade can disrupt your computer performance to the point of having to reinstall the Operating system again and all the software that you use. Being able to undo and update or upgrade is essential and can be done with little effort, prevention versus repair. C) Defrag and Scandisk: This portion of the maintenance program will depend on the architecture of the computer as well as the frequency that it has done before. depending on the OS, CPU it may take anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours A lot can be said for these two utilities. Defragmentation is something to be done at least once a year. What is defragmentation? Imagine if you will two file cabinets in two adjacent rooms. You have client A in the first drawer of File cabinet number 1, but wait half of the file is in file cabinet 2 in the other Room. So every time you look for client A’s records you have to go to both Rooms and look in both cabinets. Defragmentation is the process in which your computer organizes the files in a sequential manner. In other words Client A’s files will be together in the same Room and in the same cabinet cutting down the time you need to spend searching. Scandisk or Checkdisk is a utility that searches your hard drives for file, directory errors and fixes what it can fix. What does it all mean? In our daily interactions with the computers we have and through the processing of data, files sometimes become corrupt. The more you use a database of data, the higher the probability that some files may be corrupt, making the application that access them unable to access the date because of the file corruption. Some programs like Outlook XP, Word XP, et cetera have a utility to detect and repair their data, the same goes for Intuit’s Quickbooks.
